movie progress
I'll let you know when I start! The project is on hiatus for the time being as I am very busy right now. Don't hold your breath, this is a long-term deal. When I'm ready to begin you'll hear about it, never fear. Anyways, I hope I haven't been misleading anyone about the project. My original post wa...

Very good then. At the risk of being assimilated, is there a chance you might make a higher-res texture for the cube in the near future?

radius vs. diameter
Borg, you (plural) stated that the diameter of a Cube is between 21 and 28 km. Shouldn't then the radius be 10.5 - 14 km?

corrections
I looked up some terms to clarify my question. Basically I want to go from an orthographic projection to a cylindrical projection (the kind most of the textures for Celestia are available in). For those who speak cartography maybe that will make more sense that my previous phrasing of the question. ...

going from a circle to a rectangle
Some time ago I drew a representation of an alien planet consisting of two circles, showing each side of the planet. I would like to convert this into a texture for use in Celestia but I can't seem to figure out how to take a circle and warp it into a rectangle. Ideally I'd like to take the two circ...

Feedback
I'm pleased with the feedback I've been getting from my post. Whenever I start production I will definitely enlist the help of those interested. I imagine I will need some alien planet textures. BTW, I have a question about textures... how do you draw a rectangular jpeg in such a way as to connect u...

Movie
Naturally, I would put Celestia in the credits. To answer Borg's question, I would probably use human actors. My intention is to use Celestia to establish locations in the movie and possibly to show shots of ships and such orbitting planets and so forth. For combat scenes and that sort of thing I wo...

Use of Celestia in TV/movies
Chris, It crossed my mind that Celestia would be ideal for use in television shows or movies, for at least limitted effects. I am interested in incorporating elements of Celestia into a low-budget movie and was just curious if you would have any objections to Celestia being used as such. I chose to ...

Voyager freezes
I'm not sure if this is a bug, but when I view the Voyager probes, they stop moving around 2020 AD and just freeze at about 126 AU from Earth. I'd like to know if this is a bug or if this is supposed to happen.
I am using Celestia 1.2.5 in Win2k with a GeForce 2 video card.
Cheers,
Fleegle

Celestia as a desktop
One feature I'd like to see is the ability to use Celestia as an Active Desktop. It would be cool to see a planet rotating in the background while I'm doing stuff or just while my machine is idle. Obviously it should be able to act as a screensaver as well. Anyways, I'm just curious if anyone has mo...

lunar synchronous orbit
This might be a dumb question, but I've never been very good with orbital mechanics.
Here goes: how do I get an object to orbit the moon synchronously?

new features
I'd love to see all of the features mentioned here incorporated into Celestia at some point, but in my personal opinion the best features to add would have to be: 1) Gravity 2) Control of spacecraft objects (maybe an option to "attach" to an object so that when the observer moves it would bring the ...

gravity problems
Hey Marc, the gravity effects don't seem to be working for me. The observer will begin to fall towards the planet but at a certain point the observer starts moving away from the planet and keeps going. I haven't gone anywhere near the center of the body but I'm wondering if this might be a partial s...

I don't believe Celestia supports multiple-star systems yet. It seems to be a feature a lot of people want, so I'm sure they'll be in a future version.

Looks great! I hate to be a nit-picker but wasn't the monolith a lot closer to Jupiter? (at least it looked like it in the movie) Does anyone know the distance that the monolith was supposed to be? I can't recall whether they mentioned it in the movie. Just curious where you got the orbital data. An...

Re: Observer under Gravity Influence
I think even just collision detection in Celestia would be great. It would stop me from flying through planets. Of course there would have to be an option to turn off collision detection if you wanted. There could be an "observer" mode and a "spacecraft" mode or something. I get the feeling that gra...

black hole
Yeah, I'm aware that it doesn't look realistic. The purpose of making that black hole was both for practice and demonstration of what it would generally look like.
And yes the color sucks. But as I said its not really intended to be accurate to any degree.

actual details
For the venus cloud formation, what are the most realistic settings? I just made some up, namely 100 for CloudHeight (I had it at the ridiculous setting of 5000 just to see more of the surface texture... looks like a shell around a planet -- reminds me of a Dyson Sphere). I set the CloudSpeed to 23 ...
